Our Team
Here's a bit about the team or our family. Everyone who works with us is unique in their own way. Mix us all up and you get a big cake of lovliness (with added nuts).

Ged has had a varied and interesting career as a scriptwriter and as a copywriter. Ged fell into greetings cards by accident and ended up working with the great Ralph Shaeffer- the character creator for American Greetings responsible for The Care Bears, Holly Hobbie, Strawberry shortcake and My Pet Monster to name but a few. It was from this point that Ged became interested in character creation and set about with Phil Renshaw to create Bubblegum - the character brand of the early 90's for Carlton Cards.
As joint head of the studio he sometimes has a good idea and writes it down. Ged is responsible for providing the editorial voice for all the characters - Check out Ged's Linked in profile or e-mail Ged directly. Read testimonials about Ged's work.

Ged thinks Jenny is the best character creator/ illustrator in the U.K. The current success of both GoochiCoo and Scarlett and Crimson are in part attributed to the energy and sense of fun that leaps from the illustrations Jenny has drawn for both these properties. We all appreciate the hard work Jenny puts in. She does all this and manages to be a top Mum to her own GoochiCoo Little Star Jacob Lee. We're lucky to have her as a friend and as a colleague.

Bonita - aka kaely's Mum - gave up an illustrious career as an art lecturer to spend time as a lady of leisure. This didn't last long as she is also a paper engineer of astounding talent. Bonita is responsible for the preparation of all the 3d product mock -ups and if you've seen them you know she's the best there is.

Nicole loves ideas. She coaxes them into her house with a trail of broken bourbons and feeds them milk with an eyedropper. This love of ideas started at an early age and was actively encouraged at Central Saint Martins where she spent 4 years learning how to mollycoddle concepts, nurture notions and tuck happy thoughts in at bedtime.
For 10 years she did drawings and thought of stuff to sell things like shampoo, cars and gas and wasn't half bad at it - but her ideas had other ideas.
Now Nicole's brain beasties hang out at The Backland Studio, they love it there (and not just because Kaely buys better biscuits).
Nicole Adams

Lancashire Werewolf and man of many talents. Dave Iddon has worked with Ged Backland for the last couple of decades. A cartoonist and Mac wizard. Dave is also a talented musician and his house contains more guitars than a Guns and Roses dressing room.

Tony is our web Guru, he's the bloke who makes The Backland Studio and all the individual sites for our brands look webtastic. We reckon his favourite food is McCain Micro - chips and he's better at this web stuff than Spiderman on a good day. We're lucky he's our friend 'cos we think he could turn into Tron at the click of a mouse and cause all sorts of web related malarky.

Nik has been illustrating for many a moon now and loves nothing more than exploring new ideas and styles, and is forever trying to find new ways to bring his ideas to life. He has been creating cartoons alongside Ged and Kaely since back in the days of Carlton Cards, and loves being given any opportunity to bring life to their ideas. Nik has two little boys who make sure that he never forgets how to keep things fun and happy on a daily basis which helps no end with his cartoon work.
